3 Myths Holding You Back From Starting CrossFit

If you’ve ever thought about trying CrossFit but felt hesitant, you’re not alone. At CrossFit Glasshouse, we hear many of the same concerns from people who walk through our doors—or those who hesitate to take that step.

Here are the three most common myths that might be holding you back and why they simply aren’t true:

Myth 1: CrossFit Looks Intimidating

From the outside looking in, CrossFit can seem overwhelming. The weights, the intense workouts, the community of people who seem to already “have it all together.” It’s natural to feel nervous.

But here’s the reality: you’ll find someone in our gym who started exactly where you are right now. Most of our members were once unsure about stepping into a new gym.

When you come in, you’ll everyday professionals working to feel better, move better, and get stronger. In fact, most of people who join us have never done a strict pull-up or push-up and are dealing with body aches or stiffness. And that’s okay! We’re here to help you every step of the way.

To make that first step easier, we start with personal training sessions. These sessions focus on teaching you the foundational movements you’ll need and introducing you to our welcoming community. From day one, you’ll feel supported, not judged, because we’ve all been there.

Don’t just take our word for it! Check out Simone's testimonial in our Instagram page to read her story about overcoming the same fears and how CrossFit Glasshouse has transformed her life.

Myth 2: I’ll Get Injured or Make My Injuries Worse

One of the biggest fears people have is injury. Maybe you’ve had a previous injury, or you’re worried about doing something wrong. This is exactly why we place such a strong emphasis on safe, controlled movement.

Our onboarding process is designed to teach you how to move well before you move fast. Every class starts with a detailed walkthrough of the movements in that day’s workout, led by our coaches. They’ll ensure you understand how to do each exercise safely and confidently.

We also know that everyone’s starting point is different. That’s why our coaches tailor the workout to your abilities and goals. For example, if a workout includes something you’re not ready for, your coach will provide you with an alternative that challenges you but keeps you safe.

Here’s the secret: about 90% of our members modify at least some part of the workout to suit their goals and fitness level. And that’s intentional! CrossFit is scalable for everyone. The goal isn’t to do what someone else is doing—it’s to do what’s best for YOU, so you can progress safely and sustainably.

Myth 3: I have to be fit to get started

Another common misconception is that CrossFit is only for elite athletes or people who are already super fit. But that couldn’t be further from the truth.

At CrossFit Glasshouse, the majority of our members are busy professionals using CrossFit as a tool to:

Our members come back because of the support, encouragement, and camaraderie they find here—not because they’re chasing medals.

Here’s what surprises most people: the very people you might feel nervous about joining in a workout are the ones who will cheer you on the loudest. At CrossFit Glasshouse, you’re not judged for where you’re starting—you’re respected for your effort and your journey.
